“When Should My Animals Nails Be Done?”

Another great question I get as a groomer!

As a general rule of thumb we recommend once a month!

Of course every animal is different and their nails grow at different rates per individual animal!

The best way to trim your pets nails is with a Dremel, its the best way to ensure their nails are as short as possible without cutting the quick and it also ensures that the nails don’t remain sharp and they are rounded out!

Especially if your pet has black nails or nails that you cannot easily see the quicks, the Dremel is the safest option!

Another reason it is preferred is because it is easy for regular nail clippers to get dull and crack the nails instead of cutting them properly which will cause pain and distress to the animal and a possible vet visit.

We do the nails of dogs, cats, and small animals!

For small animals we recommend using a small nail clipper and a hand file to help round out the edges as a Dremel may be too high powered for most small animals.

Small animals may also need their nails trimmed less often than that of cats and dogs so once every two months should be good enough for the majority of small animals and of course use your discretion and your knowledge of your own pet to help determine when they personally should get their nails done as these are just general guidelines!
