“Chlorine and how it effects dog skin and fur!”

Its summer and its swimming weather!

There is nothing wrong with swimming in the pool with your pup!

When your pool is properly chlorinated it is safe for your dog to swim in!

Of course just like humans, prolonged exposure to chlorine can lead to irritation of the skin, dryness, or a rash.

    More details on potential problems:

Dryness and Irritation: Chlorine can strip away the natural oils on the dogs skin and cause this

Rashes: Sometimes dogs can get a rash which can appear red and bumpy.

Paw Sensitivity: If your dog licks their paws after swimming, it can mean their paws are irritated from the chlorine.

Ear Infections: Water trapped in the ears especially in floppy eared dogs can lead to infection.

How To Prevent:

Always rinse your dog thoroughly after swimming in the pool!

Use a coat conditioner before AND after swimming to keep the coat moisturized.

Monitor the time your dog spends in the pool especially if they are prone to skin conditions!

Gently dry the inside of your dogs ears especially if they have floppy ears to prevent moisture build up.
