“Grooming and Cats”
In this blog post I am going to go over a bunch of different questions and important information regarding cats and grooming.
Does my cat need a bath?
Cats are known for self-grooming so does my cat actually need a bath?
Some cats need baths to remove dirt, debris, and excess oils. Long-haired cats or cats with certain skin conditions may need more frequent baths as well.
Sometimes even the healthiest cats can need a bath because they got int something messy!
If your cat has a skin condition it can be beneficial to give it baths to help its skin, especially with medicated shampoo!
Older cats or cats with joint pains can have a difficult time self-grooming so they will need regular baths!
During flea and tick season you may find your cat has some on them, the best way to remove them is to put them in a flea and tick bath to kill the parasites and then remove them gently with a comb or hemostats!
Breeds of Cats That Need Grooming:
Persian: Their long luxurious coat needs daily brushing, regular grooming and regular bathing to keep their long dense coat beautiful and healthy!
Himalayan: Similar to Persians, they need daily grooming and regular bathing for their long dense coats!
Birman: Their long silky coat requires daily brushing to prevent mats and keep it beautiful!
Maine Coon: These gentle giants have a thick, water-repellant coats that need regular brushing, especially during shedding season, and regular trims!
Ragdoll: Known for their semi-long, silky coat, Ragdolls require regular grooming to control shedding and prevent matting!
Norwegian Forest Cat: Their thick, water-repellent double coat requires frequent brushing, especially during shedding season.
Siberian: This breed has long, thick, 3 layered coat that needs regular grooming.
Siamese: While they are short haired, daily brushing can minimize shedding and hair balls!
Burmese: Like Siamese they need weekly grooming to keep their coat healthy
Hairless Breeds: While they dont need brushing they do require frequent baths to remove oils and dirt from their skin!
Always brush out your cats fur no matter the length of fur as regular brushing will help all cats with shedding, hairballs, and matting!
Regular visits to the groomer depending on your cat can also be beneficial!
