“What EXACTLY Are Dog Years?
Everyone assumes dog years is about 7 years to one human year.
That is not actually accurate!
Scientifically the closest they have been able to predict how old your dog actually is, is with this:
The First Year: Dogs actually are about 15 after their first year since they age fastest during the first year of their life!
The Second Year: Dogs go through about 9 years during the second year, still more than the next years but it starts to slow down after the first and second year of their life!
After That: They age about 4-5 years per year after the second year of life! Way different from the 7 year rule we were all told growing up!
These are not precise as breed and health can also be a huge factor in their actual dog years!
For example, smaller breeds live longer and mature faster so their first year is closer to the 15 year mark as a large dog breed may be closer to 10 years old at the 1 year mark!
Of course as they get older it gets more complicated as health makes a huge difference as said before!
I hope this little post was helpful!
